Council planners meet with WED

Following an initial public meeting organised by the Whaingaroa Environmental Defence Society (WED) to conisder the proposed Raglan Town Plan (Structure Plan), the Waikato District Council planners are coming to a meeting at 6.30pm on Monday 19th at the Raglan Community House to explain the Structure Plan.

Friday 13th August is the deadline for submissions on the planned new footbridge to Environment Waikato and Waikato District – information is at http://ew.govt.nz/Consents/Resource-consents/Significant-applications-hearings-and-decisions/Raglan-footbridge/. It includes pruning the pohutukawa trees for the 1.15m higher walkway on the Raglan side, building a 144m long bridge to replace the 105m bridge, closing the walkway on the Raglan side during construction and demolition, though access from north or south will remain. Jumping from the bridge is mentioned, but it is not clear that the new 1.2m safety rail will allow for it. Although council guidelines for a shared walkway/cycleway say it should be 3m wide, the proposed bridge is 2.2m wide. Do you want to talk about the footbridge on Monday, or have another meeting?
