Karioi Classic a huge success

Dirk congratulates entrants as they cross the finish line

Today’s Karioi Classic saw a large field of 230 cyclists take off from Kopua Domain for the 43km ride around Mount Karioi on gravel roads, then up the Whaanga Coast, past the surf beaches before a finishing downe Raglan Airfield.  Although the day started off with light showers by the start time of 10 am, the showers had given way to a lovely sunny day.

Title of King and Queen of Karioi, will be awarded to the fastest male and female with their name on the Chris Meek designed trophy at a ceremony at Blacksand Cafe. The King and Queen will also get handcrafted recycled steel key rings, unique, one of a kind to treasure.

And then many of the cyclists and their supprorters headed to Raglan’s cafes for lunch.

  1. Hi Lisa/Dirk
Terrific event-nice hill climb at the start to spread the field-great scenery(not that I got to see much of it;eyes on the road and all that)- quiet roads-challenging grass section at the end to really finish us off. Even the weather was perfect and that includes no dust.
Are you going to publish all the results? ie in finishing order with times.
    Cheers
    John
