Earlier this year Waikato District Council caused confusion for Raglanders and Xtreme Zero waste when it it announced a sticker system for rubbish bags in Raglan. It quickly did a U-turn on that and withdrew the announcement from its website. In June it then issued a media release covering Raglan saying the only change would be a second green crate for glass recycling.
Now it seems that Hamiltonians have been confused by the WDC’s sticker system. There are reports of Hamiltonians buying the stickers from Countdown and New World. The Hamilton City Council has now issued an advisory about this. (See below.)
The confusion comes about due to the multiple cousie councils across the Waikato. The Waikato District Council only covers a small part of the Waikato. So Tamahere, Matangi, most of Te Kowhai, Tauwhare, Whatawhata, Ngaruawahia residents need to use the stickers, but Hamilton and surrounding areas such as Rotokauri, Tuhikaramea, Templeview and parts of Te Kowhai don’t use the new sticker system.
And of course Raglan has it own blue bag system, so Raglandic folk must not buy the WDC stickers being sold in Hamilton supermarkets.
You can read about full details of the Raglan system here. Raglanders need to keep using the blue and yellow bags – no stickers needed.

RUBBISH STICKERS NOT NEEDED IN HAMILTON
Hamilton City Council’s household rubbish collection service hasn’t changed, and the city’s ratepayers don’t need to buy rubbish stickers.
That’s the message from the city’s Asset Manager Emily Botje as some residents have been given incorrect information from retailers after changes in a neighbouring council region.
“Waikato District Council rubbish bag stickers are now being sold in Hamilton, but Hamilton City Council’s collection doesn’t use stickers,” Ms Botje says.
For Hamilton ratepayers the service provided includes two rubbish bags per household (no stickers needed), plus a crate for recycling, and paper and card tied beside the crate.
