The Bach Bach in Raglan was called a “generous modern home” by judges.

The property is composed of two rectangular forms that wrap around a central sheltered courtyard. It was designed for an opera singer and her husband.

Geoff Lentz, the convenor of this year’s awards jury said,  “Construction is impressive on all levels, from the largest idea to the finest detail, and carefully selected materials and finishes are meticulously arranged throughout.” He added, “The result is a sculptural, liveable home where even the walls are alive with the sound of music.”

Lentz  said many of the “wildly imaginative”  award-winning residential projects resulted from “inspired collaborations with clients.”

The winners of the 2016 Waikato and Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards were announced on Friday at an awards ceremony at the University of Waikato Performing Arts Centre.  The awards set the standard for good architecture in the region, were given to 23 projects in six categories.
