On the 9th March Raglan Ramblers will be walking on Maungatautari. This will be another long drive east to enjoy the bird sounds in this bush surrounded by 47km of predator-proof fencing.

Ramblers say they may split into two groups for the day. An energetic group, would climb the 753m Pukeatua Peak by the rugged ridge route and get views. The other strolling group would walk in the Southern Enclosure ($18, $12 senior), to see the takahe, doing more watching and listening and climbing the platform into the canopy. Please bring your lunch and entry money for the bird enclosure walk.

Walks usually start 9am, Wednesdays from Wainui Rd car park (next to Raglan Fire Station).  There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs.  Details from John 825 7866.   Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook

Each “Rambler” accepts responsibility for any accident or injury received while travelling, or walking over private property. Be prepared – carry enough food, clothing, first aid kit for emergencies and preferably a mobile phone.

  1. The first long drive east is this Saturday, when the ramblers have an extra walk, leaving at 8am from the Wainui Rd carpark, to walk up Pukemokemoke (a 40ha remnant of kauri / hard beech forest, rising from 20m to 166m), walk round the Herd of Cows art trail (http://herdofcowsmorrinsville.co.nz/), visit the Morrinsville A&P Show ($8 – see https://vimeo.com/139301682) and go swimming ($5.50 in heated 50m pool http://www.swimzonepools.co.nz/our-facilities/morrinsville).
