It was in between the Christmas and New Year holidays, so an ideal time for takeaway pizza. As it was the holiday silly season when Raglan is overloaded with visitors, we set off early to the Raglan Roast Food Department to order the pizzas. We were after three pizzas. One needed to be vegetarian, one had to be meaty and the third needed to be a regular NZ style.
The Food Department has 16 different pizzas on the menu with basic appetizers, tomato based and non-tomato styles all covered. They range in price from $10 to $24. On ordering we were found that only about half of the listed types were available. Perhaps because of the holiday period they had run out of some ingredients and this was the reason for the reduced range. We settled for a margherita, a meatlovers and a calabrese.
The order took about 20 minutes to come, about the normal time for a pizza to be made.
The bases are not to thin and not to thick just right for an Italian style pizza. Just the way I like it. If you are used to Pizza Hut ones then you may find the Food Dept. pizzas to be too thin. The toppings were tasty and just the right amount apart from the margherita which was made with dried herbs.
Overall on Value for Money I gave Raglan Roast Food Department a Seven out of Ten for the pizzas – they were prepared well and came quickly at a busy time of the year. Service was efficient. If the full range had been available, I would have given them an Eight. Our 3 pizzas cost $49 in total. Delivery is also available at $5 around Raglan and $10 to Whale bay.
