On Sunday 14/06/2015 at around 8.30pm at the Ohautira Road end of Ruakiwi Road, Te Akau, a farm owner confronted 2 or 3 males armed with a compound hunting bow. The males left when confronted by the farm owner, but not before shooting and killing a breeding sow on the property. The males were driving what was described by the farm owner as a dark coloured ute with the number plate of WN6300. This vehicle is not registered to a local address. Keep an eye out for it and report it to Police if it is seen in the area. Do not approach the occupants, but if you can, supply Police with descriptions of the occupants and a direction of travel if the vehicle drives off.
There are a large number of people in vehicles not wearing seat belts, and even more drivers who ignore the few Stop signs that are erected in town. Stop means stop. You must stop at the Stop sign whether there is traffic coming or not. The penalty for failing to stop at a stop sign is $150.00. The penalty for failing to wear a seat belt is $150.00. Both of these offences are amongst the top causes of road crashes nationally and here in the Waikato. The others are Alcohol, Learner and Restricted driver licence holders and Speed.
Also, if your drivers licence is suspended or disqualified you are not permitted to drive any vehicle until your drivers licence is reinstated. If you are caught driving a vehicle, you go to Court and the vehicle is impounded for 28 days, regardless of who owns it.
