Raglan Wharf
Neglected used abused.
Iconic relic of a bygone age.
Design was utility based,
But aesthetically they got it right
Snugly, hugging protruding point.
Craftily low and sturdy.
Blasted by westerlies & waves,
Storm enduring without damage!
You served our Raglan well.
All or almost! Crossed your decks,
Commerce & culture.
Incoming & outgoing,
Small & some larger cargoes.
Arrivals & departures.
And always, the busy toil
Of loading & unloading.
Fixing & mending just enough,
Serving & meeting a time dictated need.
And then retired ,tired & worn.
To become a place of passers by,
Stopping, walking briefly, then moving on.
Fisher folks & children,
A roost for seabirds.
A place of rusting neglect
With only the most visual repaired & used.
Respected, Neglected &utility dictated.
And then you disappeared in one
Angry burst of fierce flame.
