Frenchman missing after Raglan stay

RaglanPoliceStationIMG_3084A Frenchman thought to be ‘woofing’ his way around the Waikato is being urged to contact police.

Police say they are keen to ensure the wellbeing of Tanguy Pharizat who is described as a ‘shy’ Frenchman. He  was last seen leaving the Raglan camping ground on January 15 where it was thought he was leaving for Hamilton.

“Mr Pharizat was due to uplift a letter from Inland Revenue from a resident he had stayed with when first arriving in the Waikato so he could open up a bank account and allow him to gain employment,” Senior Constable Paul Helwig said.

“Unfortunately, it seems his intentions also included a stint of ‘woofing’ which is working on organic farms for food and lodgings which doesn’t involve any income so the urgency in obtaining that IRD letter may have been lost.”

Checks with immigration officials confirm the 22-year-old has not left the country and police are appealing for the Frenchman to make contact with them to ensure his wellbeing.

There is no indication he may have come to any harm but police want Mr Pharizat, or anyone who has been in contact with him, to call them so they can confirm he is safe.

“His English is not thought to be of a high standard and he has been described as being quite shy. If property owners are approached by a man matching his description seeking lodgings in return for food and accommodation please make contact with police,” Mr Helwig says.
