Back in September 2014, the application for a liquor shop license in Bow St was turned down by the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority (ARLA) Agency. We heard that the applicant, Venus NZ Ltd had decided to appeal this decision. The premises at 35 Bow St, were at first used for the ‘Bow St Dairy’ and more recently for a ‘pop-up’ shop. It seems that Venus still wants to set up a liquor shop there.
We asked Waikato District Council:
I understand that the original submitters on the Bow St liquor shop application have been told that the applicant has appealed and been given a copy of the appeal document.
What stage has the appeal got to?
Have these been any public hearings or are there any coming up?
A spokesperson for Waikato District Council said, “The Waikato Licencing Agency received an application for an off-licence in October 2013 from Venus NZ Ltd in order to operate a bottle store at 35 Bow Street, Raglan.
As part of the process the applicant was required to publicly advertise the proposal. This attracted 64 public objections.
Because there were objections, the application was required to be heard at a public hearing by the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority (ARLA).
The hearing was held in Raglan on 24 September 2014 and one objector attended the hearing.
The ARLA determined that the licence should not be granted and the applicant has appealed this decision to the High Court.”
