In between putting out fires, attending plane and car crashes, the Raglan Volunteer Fire Fighters also found time to enter multiple floats in the 2014 Raglan Lions’ New Year’s Eve parade. Their work on the floats paid off as their entries received multiple prizes. The judges awarded them the 1st Prize in the Education/Safety class, 1st Prize in Bike Anything On Wheels for their Sky Tower entry. Plus they were also awarded the Judges Special award. Well done Fire Fighters.

With a total of 21 Floats entered and some 140 participants the Raglan Lions Club members led the parade around Bow Street till it was filled both sides, with the Raglan Caledonian Pipe band swelled by visiting Pipers and Drummers.

Lions Club President Bob Macleod was pleased with the overall involvement of the community and the respect paid to the “No water policy”, however the lack of floats in the “Sustainable” category was disappointing for the Judges as this community promotes itself as green and protective.

The parade was led by a small contingent from Raglan Lions Club who organise the parade each year. They were followed by the Raglan Highland Band and then by floats. The parade followed the usual route of up Bow St, round the palm outside the Town Hall and then down Bow St. And then of course they did it once more all watched by a big enthusiastic crowd.

The Lions Club of Raglan would like to thank all those who have supported this event; Raglan 23, Raglan Community Radio and all who have used the Lions Opportunity Shop, the Lions members and volunteers, thank you. Finally the Lions Club would like to thank the Waikato District Council for its support of this event as they make it happen by providing the prize money and traffic management. The Wardens for their presence within the crowd and the continuing support of the Raglan Pipe Caledonian Band which makes it Raglan’s iconic parade, Thank You.” Musos on the Raglan Hire Centre float
