The new section of footpath up the Simon Rd hill was completed on Monday 22nd and is now open. Consisting of concrete and boardwalk sections, the footpath was completed after ten years of request from residents. The $80,000 Waikato District Council project was undertaken by Civil Construction Services and took four weeks to build.

There has been some comment on Facebook that the timber section will become slippery over winter. Residents say they can see that in time remedial work will be necessary in the form of a non-slip metal grid being fitted to the timber decking. When I walked on the footpath just after a spring shower it wasn’t slippery.

Good to see that walkers, buggies are off this dangerous section of road at last.

Well done WDC.
