Raglan’s first new footpath not associated with a roading project is underway in Simon Road. Persistence by the Raglan Community Board and Councillor Baddeley, saw approval given by Waikato District Council for the $80,000 project in February.
Starting on Monday 25th, Civil Construction Services have been trimming foliage and excavating the path for the new footpath.
The Raglan Community Board took the issue up early in 2013 and made it a priority. At first, Council staff kept misplacing the Board’s request. The Board sent a continual flow of copies of the priority list to the WDC and this ensured that the Council was kept aware that it was a priority. By mid 2013 following submissions from residents, the Council started to investigate what needed to be done. Funding for the footpath came from the Lorenzen Bay Structure Plan development levies. The project is part of the Council’s move to having a positive approach to Community Boards.
Good to see this footpath underway and know that soon residents will be able to walk on the footpath and not this very dangerous road.
