Less than 30 days after being fined for spilling sewage at the Raglan Wastewater plant, it seems that Waikato District Council has done it again. In imposing the fine in July, Hamilton District Court Judge David Kirkpatrick noted that errors committed by district council staff were “of a systemic nature, revealing poor training, supervision and ultimate management”.

A terse message posted on the Waikato District Council’s Facebook early on Sunday (9th August) afternoon said, “Raglan residents are advised that due to an overflow from the wastewater treatment plant on Wainui Road, fishing, collecting of shellfish and swimming in the harbour should be avoided until further notice.”

No details have been provided on the quantity of sewage that has been spilled.  We’ve heard that the spill this time was from an overflow from the pump manhole at Wainui Rd and Marine Pd.

The slight improvement this time is that WDC has told the Raglan community promptly about the issue, rather than keeping quiet.
