An update is coming before summer for the playground equipment in Raglan Domain (Papahua – Te Kopua). Two sections of new equipment will be installed with one part catering for junior children and another for senior children. Waikato District Council has let the $118,801 contract to Playground Creations.
The Council appeared to have let this contract while at the same time undertaking an expensive review of what equipment should be installed in park playgrounds. Council reports say that work is continuing still going on in August on their Playground Strategy before possible adoption. Raglan local John Lawson said, “So they let a major contract just before consulting? Where’s the consultation?”
From Tim Harty, Waikato District Council General Manager, Service Delivery:
“Te Kopua playground renewal project was confirmed prior to the strategy and is part of the 2012 – 2022 Long Term Plan. Significant community consultation has taken place over the past 18 months involving local residents and families, visitors, Raglan Area school students, young and old prior to the planning stages. The plans were also provided to the Coastal Advisory Reserves Committee who gave their seal of approval to the concept.
“There are two zones to be installed. Zone one includes a pre-school and a junior play areas plus swing sets, zone two includes a senior play area plus swing set – see illustrations.
The contract has been awarded to Playground Creations and completion is scheduled for early November.”
