Late opening for temporary Council office

Visitors to the Council office and library this morning were confronted with a locked door and a closed sign.

While Raglanders had been promised that the temporary Council office and Library at 39 Bow St would be open first thing on Monday 17th, callers this morning found that the door was locked shut. The office opened later in the day. The delay did give an opportunity for people to visit neighbours and borrow a book or two for an urgent read.

A Council spokesperson said, “The doors have now opened – just a few unexpected technical glitches this morning which often come with the territory of moving, but all sorted now. Thanks for your patience.”

I always marvel that it always seems to be ‘technical glitches’ that hold things up and never ‘human error’.

  1. I have a book due back today that my husband tried to return this morning to be greeted by a sign “closed until further notice” so will I be charged?
Little communication from the council and what are they doing with the old library?

    1. Hi Genny

No, you absolutely won’t be charged a late fee and we apologise for the inconvenience caused by the late opening of the office and library in its new temporary premises. As communicated in the sign on the door, no overdue charges will accrue during the closure period, which includes the 17th.

It’s unfortunate that you have missed the previous information circulated about the Raglan library and office refurbishment which appeared in the Raglan Chronicle, on this website and in various sites about town, but the building is being renovated to address a leaking roof and the need for more space.

The works will involve replacing and moving the shop front out and removing an interior wall to create additional space, along with replacing the existing counters and installing a new toilet for the disabled. A new roof, guttering and flashings will be installed as well as replacement of all the high level window seals. More info on the project is available on our website: http://www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/News-events/Media-releases/Council’s-Raglan-library-and-office-to-move-as-ren.aspx
