Fish n Chip oil powers Raglan VW

140217FishnChipsCarThe Waikato Times is continuing its Monday Profiles which mainly seem to focus on Raglan people. This week, Times journalist Chris Gardner, tells us about Mark Dobson, Heidi Douglas and family along with their  VW Golf. The remarkable thing about the car is that it is powered by used  cooking oil from Jo’s Takeaways/ Domain Camp Store. The oil costs 20 cents per litre and they pay road user taxes on top of that. So they have a low-cost option that is kind on the planet.

The car was converted in December 2012 for $2000.  Since then the car has run on used cooking oil for its daily runs into Hamilton. It can be switched back to run on diesel if needed.
