The usual sign of a new business being set up in Raglan is newspaper covering the shop window of an empty shop. The new liquor store proposed for 35 Bow St is following this path. A small public notice sign in the window advises pedestrians who stop to read it that this is the future premises of Bow St Liquor. The shop in recent years has been home to a number of businesses for short periods- Department of Food, Burger Shack Organic, Raglan Burger Shack and Raglan Memorabilia.
The liquor shop is being set up by Venus NZ Ltd who have applied for a license to WDC in Ngaruawahia for a retail liquor outlet which will operate Sunday to Thursday from 9am to 9pm and on Friday and Saturday from 9am to 10pm. The notice is dated 7th November and objection must be lodged within 15 days of this date to the Waikato District Council, Private Bag 544, Ngaruawahia. This application will be considered under the old licensing law, not the new one with tighter requirements that comes into force on 18th December.
The applicant, Venus NZ Ltd is a private company set up on 22nd August owned by Vishnu VIJAYAKUMAR NAIR (40%), Thangavadivel GNANASUNDARAM (30%), Chandrasekar GNANASUNDARAM (20%), Lekha Krishnan GOMATHY (5%), Arishma Payal NAIDU (5%). No the license application isn’t approved. The report that Bob refers to just says the application from Bow St Liquor was received by the District Council and they have yet to start processing it. Processing can’t start until the submission period ends Thursday 28th November. Approving a report doesn’t mean that an application listed in the report is approved.
