Back at the Harbour View

Raglan Harbour View Hotel at night
Raglan Harbour View Hotel at night

It was a cold wet Saturday night and the restaurant at Raglan’s Harbour View Hotel is nice and warm, especially if you sit close to the gas fire. So we headed there for a night out. And it is great to enjoy the heritage of this lovely old building.

Menus were supplied promptly after we were seated and our drink’s order was taken and delivered quickly. After studying the menu we selected the lamb shank with horopito on mash and the pork loin.

After chatting for a while we heard a ‘ding’ come from the kitchen. It seemed our meals were ready but there were no waitrons about to deliver them to our table.  The wait staff had all disappeared.  Over several minutes, the ‘dings’ kept coming from the kitchen. We counted a total of five.  Suddenly the wait staff all reappeared and our meals were delivered.  We were a bit concerned that they might be cold, but they were still hot.

The meals were tasty and well presented. The lamb had a hint if mint served with a good gravy and accompanied by crunchy green beans. For dessert I tried the chocolate and grand marnier tart. We finished off the meal with decaf cappuccino.

The restaurant was about two-thirds full. It seems now to be a place where mainly visitors go to eat as we were the only locals dining at the Harbour View.

The total bill for two people was $91, with the mains at about $27.  Overall I rated our meals and service from the Harbour View Hotel at 7/10 for value for money. If the meal had been delivered as soon as it was cooked I would have given a rating of 8/10.
