Fishing from Raglan Wharf – no additional rails needed

A consultant has told Waikato District Council that no additional safety rails are needed on Raglan Wharf and recommended that if the wharf’s principal purpose is a functioning wharf that no additional railing is installed. The investigation was requested after the drowning death on the wharf in July.  shortly after 1am on 8th July, 43-year-old Hamilton man George Welsh Greening, drowned after falling from the Dolphin Pier at Raglan Wharf while fishing with a friend.

The Harbour Master recommended that a solar-powered navigation light be installed.  This has already been installed on the Dolphin Pier.

There is still no resolution to the fire alarm problems at the wharf with Waikato council now saying that they are working with Fire Security Services to resolve issues regarding fire alarm and smoke and heat detectors. The Raglan Community Board first raised the issue of the wharf fire alarm not being connected to the brigade back in March.
