A combination of extremely high tides and rain over the weekend meant that not much was visible of the rocky outcrop on the edge of Lorenzen Bay known locally as the ‘doughboys’ ( Tokatara Rocks). The period from 29 January to 4 February was flagged by NIWA as a red alert period for high tides with the highest tide on 30 Jan. The ‘doughboys’ consist of the ‘doughboy’ closer to land and the ‘pancake’ on the harbour side. In the photo the ‘pancake’ is almost totally submerged- a very rare occurrence.
