Although most people believe that after the recent rains, that the drought is now over, Ngaruawahia is maintaining its hard line on water restrictions in Raglan saying that Alert Level 3 water restrictions of the ‘Smart Water’ system must remain. In a comment on the Raglan 23 website they said it was dependent on Waikato River water levels, ignoring the fact that Raglan’s water is sourced from the Riki Springs, a mountain range away from the Waikato River. And that there is plenty of water available at our lovely Riki springs.
Meanwhile Auckland’s water plant on the Waikato River continues to suck 90 to 125 million litres every day from the river- about 10 times the water usage for the entire Waikato District.
And water usage in Raglan continues at very low levels, now averaging 1600 cubic metres a day.
