The Waikato District Council has put the Whaanga Coast wastewater project out for public tender with tenders closing on 7 March 2013.
Once the tender period closes, there will be an evaluation of tenderers and then subject to pricing, the contract will be awarded in late March.
The wastewater scheme will cover 120 existing dwellings located along the Whaanga Coast. Sixty six existing property owners have signed on to the scheme following consultation, this includes the two public toilets.
Background:
Whale Bay and the Whaanga Coast presently don’t have a reticulated wastewater system. In 2004, in response to concerns raised by residents and the Waikato Regional Council, investigations showed that the majority of on-site systems were not working, and were causing run-off into neighbouring properties and into waterways.
After extensive consultation a scheme was developed which will be paid for by the property owners with general rate funding assistance.
The Whaanga Coast wastewater project will see storage tanks and pumps installed at individual properties and waste will be pumped to the existing wastewater treatment plant at Raglan.
The plant has sufficient capacity to deal with this additional flow.
