The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. A patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.

Members work on their own projects ranging from cot to queen-sized quilts. Many long enjoyable hours are spent working on intricate artistic fabric creations. A focus on pure natural fibres, especially cottons, results in high quality handworks which often become treasured family items. Group co-ordinator Judy Levy’s favourite piece is a beautiful blue quilt given to her daughter as a wedding present.

A group challenge is sometimes undertaken. One year the theme of recycling was enthusiastically embraced. The task, to create something new from an opportunity shop purchase, resulted in many varied interpretations. Occasionally the group has a guest tutor, but generally they enjoy helping each other, sharing knowledge and skills. The impressive items produced are showcased in an annual exhibition.
The Karioi Quilters will have their first get together for 2013 on Thursday 14 February, and will continue to meet every second Thursday of the month. New members are always welcome to come along to these casual meetings to work on their own projects and learn quilting techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.

Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 2pm. So join them for a coffee and bring your lunch. They just ask for a donation of $2 to help with the rent.
