Moderate water usage continues in Raglan

Raglandic people are listening to the call from Waikato District Council and are being careful with their water usage.  Even on the extremely hot Anniversary Day holiday when numbers of visitors surged, water usage was only 2210 cubic metres a day. The peak water usage was on Sunday 27th January at 2410 when Raglan was full of overnight visitors.

While Raglan has plenty of water at its spring water source,  the limited capacity of the pumps means that if usage increased there would be a problem in some higher areas of the town. And we were told over the weekend that there appears to be a small leak in the main water main leaving the springs. The large spend over the last few years by the District Council on the pre-work needed for water meters has not added any capacity to the Raglan water supply.

New water mains are planned for the Greenslade Road area for later in 2013 and an upgrade to the water treatment plant will also go ahead later this year. Work will continue on replacing the old water mains around town. Hopefully these measures will provide spare capacity for the system.
