State Highway 23 closed Thursday evening by crash

Update January 11:

The crash closed State Highway 23 on the evening of Thursday 10th from Maungatawhiri Rd for a number of hours and dozens of drivers were diverted.

Four people from one family travelling in a Mazda SUV were injured. A 48-year-old man from Sydney suffered critical injuries and remains in a critical condition.

People in the other vehicles involved in the crash had minor injuries.

In its seventh callout for 2013 , Raglan Volunteer Fire Fighters assisted the Raglan ambulance staff and prepared the landing site for the rescue helicopter.

State Highway 23 from Whatawhata to Raglan is currently closed and is likely to be closed for a number of hours, following a collision between three vehicles at about 5pm today.

Diversions are in place at Mangatawhiri and Greenslade Roads.

One child was taken to hospital by ambulance.
A male driver and another child were flown to Waikato Hospital by helicopter.

The Waikato Serious Crash Unit is conducting the crash investigation and any further releases will be made through their office.
