Water consumption statistics obtained by Raglan 23 indicate that water use in Raglan is steady at just over 2,000 cubic metres a day. This is the same usage as last year and well within the capacity of the supply bores and the reservoirs. So even though the town is full of visitors and the weather is warm, water usage isn’t excessive.
Raglan is currently on Water Restriction Level 1. This means that there is no restriction on commercial use but residential sprinklers may only be used 6am to 8am and 6pm to 8pm. The reason for Raglan having a water restriction appears to be that Hamilton City has one and that Waikato District Council is part of the same ‘Summer Water Conservation” marketing setup.

If water usage is within the capacity of our natural spring bore, and consumption hasn’t increased, why then more than $600,000 is being spent to install water meters in Raglan which will charge residents for water on top of our rates?
That’s a question that many people would like the Waikato District Council to answer. There is a reprieve for one year though as the remote reading metering system hasn’t been selected yet.
