Since Monday, contractors hired by Waikato District Council have been removing dangerous pine trees to the west of Wainui Road between Helen Place and Whitby Street. From 6am to 6pm each day Wainui Road has been closed in this area while the work was carried out. Raglan Maori Wardens ensure traffic used the detour via Norrie Avenue.
Today work moved into Petchell Park with arborists working in 30km/hr winds on the top of the Norfolk Pine tree in Petchell Park. This species often dies back in the top section and it is necessary to top the trees to prevent sections of the trunk crashing down. The tree is thought to be over seventy years old.
