A large crowd gathered on Raglan’s Ngarunui Beach on Sunday morning to protest at mining of the seabed off the Raglan coast. Over 100 people gathered at 10am on Sunday 25th March, near the Surf Lifeguard Tower on Ngarunui Beach to have their say.  Many had placards with captions such as, ‘Seabed sand mining destroys our NZ future.’ A videographer captured the Raglan residents’ views on this controversial topic.  Mineral extraction company TTR have recently completed tests to mine the seabed in this area for iron ore. Word is they like what they’ve found and will apply for a mining license by August.
