A woman is missing after jumping from the one-way bridge on Raglan’s Opotoru Estuary. The bridge on Wainui Road links the Raglan town area to Raglan West and the surf beaches. Overnight emergency services searched unsuccessfully for a woman who had been seen jumping off the bridge after an argument.
around 9.45pm on Sunday the woman was seen walking across Raglan’s Opotoru Bridge. Police said that a grey sedan stopped beside her and there was an argument.
When the car left the woman jumped from the bridge into the water, which was at high tide. The car then appeared to return, waiting at the Raglan West end of the bridge for about five minutes before driving off again.
All Raglan emergency services (police, Coast Guard, surf lifesavers) and police search and rescue members searched the water and surrounding land for about 2-1/2 hours but did not find the woman.
It is not known if she got out of the water. Raglan police have appealed for any information about the incident and wish to speak to the driver of the grey sedan.
