Precast roof sections were lifted onto the new  WEL Network’s Raglan substation being built at the corner of Hills Road an State Highway 23.   The transformer and other equipment was delivered to the building last week.  The substation is part of WEL Network’s long term planning to upgrade supplies to our western network.  It is designed to offload the existing substation at Te Uku. This is in turn expected to increase security of supply with additional benefits of improving quality of supply and providing for future load growth in urban, rural and lifestyle areas around the greater Raglan community.

The project started on the 22nd of February, 2011 and the expected completion date is December 2011. The contract for building the substation was won by Livingstone Building Ltd after a tender process. The project cost is approximately $3.5M and much of the substation fit out is being undertaken by WEL.
