At the Raglan Community Board meeting on Tuesday 10th May, Board Member Barry Ashby said that the ‘Welcome to Raglan’ sign had been overwhelmed by the WEL sign and the message now looked more like a Welcome to WELsville due to the prominent WEL Networks’ sign that had been placed just in front of it. Board Chair Rodger Gallagher said that the Board had already started following this matter up with WEL.
At a Wind Farm Liaison meeting WEL Network’s Jack Ninnes had said that building would be in a design sympathetic with other Raglan buildings. Mr Gallagher said, “In fact, it looks like an industrial building. Even when the WEL sign comes down, this will no longer be the right place for the Welcome to Raglan sign. The Board had spent ratepayer money on the sign a few years ago and it was important that it gave the right impression to visitors.”
WEL Networks’ new $3.5 million substation is the first stop on the Raglan Website’s construction trail of Raglan.
If this is an example of what happens when WDC is left to control new building, isn’t it time for all these new developments to be publicised and Raglan residents invited to comment on them? Instead our councillor seemed, at that RCB meeting, to be suggesting we should have less information!
Wel, Wel, Wel Raglan trumps Wellington Aiport with its signage. Admittedly Wellington has had to consult with the public…
